Writing Letters and Emails

Writing Letters and exchanging emails through the Internet is fun! Every Internet user likes writing emails and learns about the world's culture and traditions. It is usual that you often want to share information with your friends. Or you want to let your friends know what are you doing and you need to write letters.

There are two types of writing letters:

Friendly Writing and Business Writing.

Friendly Letter Writing is so easy. You write to your friends whom you know already.

Usually there are some parts of writing that we need to bear in mind.

  1. Heading
  2. Greeting
  3. Body
  4. Closing
  5. Signature

HEADING: It is a part where you write about your location and date of writing.

GREETING: “Hi”, “Hello”, “Hi, Jack,” in your friendly letter. “Dear Mr. Wilson”, “Dear Mrs. Wilson” for business letters. If you do not know names you may just write “Dear Sir or Madam:”

BODY: In this part of your letter you may write about the things that mostly of interest to your friend whom you are writing a letter. You may show your interest to learn about what he or she is doing.

CLOSING: Write that you may be waiting for your friend's answer to your email. Mostly in business letters you may say “I will be looking forward to hear from you.”

Here you just simply say “goodbye” in friendly letters.

Your friend, Your new friend, Sincerely,

Sincerely, is mostly used when closing business letters

SIGNATURE: At the end of your letter add a signature. It is your name and last name. You may skip writing your last name if you are writing a friendly letter.

In Business Email writing you write to people whom you do not know. This kind of letter writing differs from Friendly writing. In your business letter you ask and request information or something else.

For example, you write a letter to your schools principal or to the editor of a local newspaper. Business letters may also be written to organizations and companies to look for a job or request catalogs.

Hello Julia,

How are you doing? Hope you are enjoying your time visiting historical places in Egypt.

It will be very good if you could send me some pictures of those historial places that you have already visited. I'll be waiting for your letter.

Take care!

GREETING

Dear Mr. Wilson,

BODY

Frankly, I need your advice on a matter of great concern to the employees at the local manufacturing facility. It seems the constant rumors of a corporate takeover are filtering down to the general work force, and the loyalty may soon falter. I have heard of some employees submitting their applications to our competitors. This could create problems if not dealt with now. I feel obliged to make some sort of official statement to the employees and hope for your guidance as to the content thereof.

CLOSING

I would be most grateful for your thoughts and advice on this most sensitive matter.

Sincerely,
